One of the key objectives of the SARP Project is to ensure food security for targeted beneficiaries in Sri Lankaβs dry zone. To address malnutrition and create new livelihood opportunities, the project has introduced an inland fisheries program that plays a vital role in both nutrition and economic development.
With the support of the National Aquaculture Development Authority (NAQDA), community-driven fish harvesting programs are now being carried out in project districts. At the Thibbatuwawa Tank in the Nikawewa GN Division, Kurunegala District, fish harvesting activities are already underway with the active involvement of the local fisheries society.
π― Our Objectives:
β Boost inland fisheries production
β Strengthen sustainable livelihood opportunities for local communities
β Enhance household nutrition and food security
This initiative marks an important step in supporting rural livelihoods and improving household nutrition through sustainable aquaculture practices, while empowering communities to build a stronger and more resilient rural economy. ππ±
