2026 October 29

The Rural Finance Unit of the Smallholder Agribusiness and Resilience Project (SARP) officially launched its financial literacy publication, “Use of Money – Use Money Wisely!”, together with its E-Book, on 28 October 2026 at the Main Conference Hall of the SARP Project Management Unit (PMU), Battaramulla.

The Project Director (PD) attended as the Chief Guest, together with the Deputy Project Director (DPD) and the entire project staff. The programme began with a welcome address and an opening introduction by the Project Director Mr N.B.M. Ranatunga. Mr. Lasantha Gunarathna then gave an insightful presentation on the new book.

The highlight of the ceremony came when the Project Director presented the printed publication to its author, Mr. W.M. Karunarathna, Former Assistant Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, and officially launched the E-Book online. The author then addressed the gathering with his special remarks.

Special invited guests at the event included Ms. Kanchana Hirimuthugoda (Manager – Value Chain, SDB), Mr. Deepal Udukumbura (Vice President – Agri Business, HNB), Ms. R.P.S. Dangalla (Chief Manager, People’s Bank) and Ms. W.K.M. Fernando (Deputy Manager, People’s Bank).

A Timely Launch
The launch took place during the Financial Literacy Month declared by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, which makes the occasion especially significant. SARP aims to build good financial habits, strong credit discipline and responsible borrowing among 40,000 households in the project area. This new approach directly supports the project’s goal of increasing the family income of SARP communities by 30%.

About the Book
