The Smallholder Agribusiness and Resilience Project (SARP), implemented under the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Land, and Irrigation, successfully hosted the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) Supervision Mission from October 12 to 22, 2026. As a key component of this mission, a comprehensive series of field visits was conducted from October 13 to 17, covering the Anuradhapura, Vavuniya, Puttalam, Kurunegala, and Matale districts to directly monitor the grassroots progress of project activities.
The mission comprehensively evaluated the practical success of various project interventions designed to uplift local livelihoods and build agricultural resilience at the community level.
During these field visits, the IFAD delegation assessed multiple key development areas:
- Rehabilitation of tanks and access roads.
- Implementation of climate-resilient agricultural practices.
- Establishment of Public, Private, Producer Partnerships.
- Implementation of youth entrepreneurship development programs.
- Implementation of nutrition-enhancing home gardening initiatives.
A significant highlight of the mission was the direct engagement with project beneficiaries. The delegation engaged in open dialogues with farmers, women entrepreneurs, youth, farmer organizations, and members of community development committees.
These interactive sessions provided the mission with a profound understanding of the practical impact of the project on local livelihoods, grassroots achievements, and implementation challenges. The gathered insights will assist in identifying available opportunities to further optimize and strengthen future project outcomes. With this renewed momentum, SARP will continue to drive forward its mission of empowering rural communities and ensuring sustainable agricultural growth across Sri Lanka.
